In addition to historically renowned artists, artparis will unveil for its audience of art lovers and established collectors a number of artists who are waiting to be discovered – or rediscovered.

The Pierre and Maria-Gaetana Matisse Collection
This exhibition is a celebration and acknowledgment of the recent gift to the Metropolitan Museum of more than 100 works from The Pierre and Maria-Gaetana Matisse Foundation. Pierre Matisse (1900–1989), a prominent art dealer in New York, was the younger son of the French painter Henri Matisse (1869–1954. Two other sections of the first installation are devoted to 14 other painters and sculptors working between 1911 and 1959: Balthus, Marc Chagall, Paul Delvaux, André Derain, Jean Dubuffet, Alberto Giacometti, Wifredo Lam, René Magritte, Joan Miró, and Yves Tanguy.

Helmut Newton: Sex and Landscapes
'Sex and Landscapes' presents the late work of Helmut Newton in 75 large photographs. Among these are images of the strong women who made him famous, and whom he shot in self-confident gender roles and in provoking nude photographs. But there is also a 'new' Newton to be discovered, capturing the twinkling of the moon on the sea, or the vast horizon in the desert of Nevada, turning landscape photography into atmospheric imagery.

Renoir to Matisse: The Eye of Duncan Phillips
More than 50 of the most outstanding modern masterworks will be on view for the first-time in Los Angeles from October 17, 2004 through January 9, 2005 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, LACMA. The exhibition Renoir to Matisse: The Eye of Duncan Phillips provides an opportunity to experience European masterpieces from The Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., one of the first museums in the United States to present modern art. The LACMA exhibition is presented to evoke the domestic setting Duncan Phillips chose when he opened his collection and his home to the public in 1921. The 19th –20th century works by Pierre Bonnard, Paul Cézanne, Honoré Daumier, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Franz Marc, Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir reveal both Duncan Phillips’ passion for contemporary art and how he came to form his collection.

SPECIFIC OBJECTS: THE MINIMALIST INFLUENCE
Showcasing works from MCASD Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego's permanent collection, as well as newly commissioned pieces, Specific Objects explores the ideas and influence of Minimalist art. In 1965, sculptor and art critic Donald Judd coined the term "specific objects" to describe artwork that challenged the traditional categories of painting and sculpture by exploring the ideas of structure, seriality, and material. These characteristics have remained pertinent to contemporary artists and continue to inform younger generations of artists who have developed their work in relation to a minimalist framework. The exhibition will feature the work of Robert Mangold, Sol LeWitt, Dan Flavin, Carl Andre, Donald Judd, and Agnes Martin, the original practitioners of Minimalism. Their work will be seen in relation to California artists such as Robert Irwin and John McLaughlin, and also to younger artists such as Byron Kim, Steve Roden, and Damían Ortega, whose work infuse minimalist forms and materials with an underlying content that is relative to contemporary issues. Specific Objects will demonstrate not only the impact of Minimalism on artists in the United States, but show examples of how these ideas have infiltrated and influenced artmaking in Latin America and around the globe.

Dan Flavin: A Retrospective
Dan Flavin's career-long exploration of an art of light, situated outside the traditional mediums of painting and sculpture, established him as a progenitor and chief exponent of minimalism. Though Flavin (1933-1996) is one of the most important and influential artists of the late 20th century, this exhibition will be the first comprehensive retrospective of his work. It is the culmination of a major scholarly research effort, which includes the publication of the catalogue raisonné of Flavin's "complete lights." October 3, 2004 - January 9, 2005
