2010-03-08 Ben Retrospective - Rétrospective Ben

March 3 - July 11, 2010

Rétrospective Ben - Strip-Tease Intégral

MAC : Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon,
Lyon, FRANCE

Ben takes hold the Lyon Museum of Contemporary Art with its artworks: paintings, texts, videos 50 years of art: the really first exhibition gathering all Ben, from his early Fluxus spirit works to installations created especially for the occasion.

Ben is one of the major artists of the 20th century. Known especially for his actions and paintings, his work constitutes a meditation on the deepest aspects of art and, by taking on board everyday reality at its most detailed, manages to make life itself an art form. His work engages with themes as diverse as ethnicity, the ego and truth.
Ben has become incredibly popular thanks to his "critures", written paintings which combine acute impertinence and keen insight.

A summer art escape in Brussels
Opening Musée Magritte Museum (02/06) / Retrospective Sophie Calle at Bozar (27/05-13/09)

Since June 2nd 2009, visitors are able to discover the Musée Magritte Museum on 2.500 m² of a building of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. Located at the Place Royale, in the very heart of Brussels, this museum displays the works of surrealist artist René Magritte. The multidisciplinary collection of over 200 works consisting in oils on canvas, gouaches, drawings, sculptures and painted objects but also in advertising posters, music scores, vintage photographs and films produced by Magritte himself is the richest in the world. The Musée Magritte Museum will be, in its domain, the world reference centre for the knowledge of the artist.

For her first exhibition at the Centre for Fine Arts (Bozar), Sophie Calle presents a collection of her works - in particular those in which she herself appears in a truly autobiographic ritual. The french contemporary artist appears amongst all these artistic productions, whether they are of literary, cinematographic or visual art nature. A voice accompanies the visitor and relates the story of this life, turning it into history. Exhibition shown until 13/09/09.

Artprice puts the Etienne Perrone documentary online: “Artprice or the art market revolution”
This 23-minute documentary in HD format describes the extraordinary human adventure of the birth in France of the world leader in art market information, Artprice, which grew out of a twenty year search for perfection in a global quest to make an Alexandrian library available to the world on Internet. Today Artprice owns 360,000 books, documents and art manuscripts dating back to the 17th century. Referring to the documentary, Thierry Ehrmann said "Film-maker Etienne Perrone has captured the real added-value that Artprice has contributed to Art history. No other company in the world has given itself the objective of standardising the art market". This documentary shows the hundreds of thousands of work-hours by historians and scientists who year after year enrich the largest art market database in the world. Artprice, according to its founder, “is only at 10% of its history”. The film was made in collaboration with the managers and personnel that have constituted Artprice and Groupe Serveur every day since 1987".
